Advanced SQL Editor

Powered by the Monaco Engine (VS Code), fine-tuned for high-performance query writing and data analysis.

High Performance

Fluidly handles massive SQL scripts using Virtual DOM and isolated Tokenization technology.

Multi-Dialect Support

Auto-detects PostgreSQL, MySQL, and MSSQL syntax for accurate highlighting and suggestions.

Safe Execution

SELECT results are fetched page by page from the server; timeout rules, connection guardrails, and risky-SQL confirmation still run before execution. Unpaged raw SQL keeps a protective 50,000-row cap.

DataGrid uses `/query/table-window`; Query Result uses the general execution endpoint with page-level `limit` and `offset`. Both fetch only the visible data window, keep row counts in a short-lived cache, and avoid loading the full dataset into the browser.

The Inner Workings

Data Explorer doesn't just embed an editor; we have re-engineered Monaco's infrastructure to optimize for SQL and Data Engineering.
Web Worker-based Validation

All syntax checking and suggestion generation run in a separate background thread (Web Worker). This ensures that even when typing in a massive SQL file, the UI remains responsive at 60fps.

AI Inline Completions (Ghost Text)

Inline AI completions now go through the app’s AI routing layer instead of being hard-wired to a single provider. The system uses debouncing so AI is only called when the context is clear enough, reducing cost and keeping the editor calm.

Query Execution Control

Cancel a running query

Each engine has its own cancellation path (pg_cancel_backend for PostgreSQL, KILL QUERY for MySQL/MariaDB), so cancellation happens on the server instead of merely discarding the client-side result.

Active Queries panel

The Active Queries panel lists queries currently running on a connection, shows execution duration (durationMs), and lets you cancel individual queries in place.

Cached AI Explain with follow-ups

AI-powered query explanations are cached by SQL content, and each explanation supports inline follow-up questions instead of starting over.

IntelliSense & Schema Awareness

IntelliSense in Data Explorer understands your actual Schema based on Introspection results to provide precise column-level completions.

Context-aware Suggestions

  • FROM/JOINSuggests Tables/Views/Schemas
  • SELECT/WHERESuggests Columns based on Table Aliases
  • INSERTSuggests column list for target table
Using Aliases (e.g., `FROM users u`) makes IntelliSense most effective. Typing `u.` will only show columns belonging to the `users` table.
Smart Completion Example

# -- Type "SELECT o." for column suggestions

SELECT o.order_id, o.amount, c.full_name

FROM public.orders o

JOIN public.customers c ON o.customer_id = c.id

Under the Hood: Monaco Engine

Custom SQL Worker
We don't use the default syntax checker. Data Explorer implements a dedicated Web Worker to handle SQL tokenization and formatting without freezing the UI thread.
Schema-Aware IntelliSense
The IntelliSense system is "injected" with metadata directly from the active database. This allows precise suggestions for tables, columns, and FK relations as soon as you type `JOIN`.
