Welcome to Data Explorer

A modern database management platform, designed with an "AI-First" philosophy for Data Engineers and AI Developers.

Data Explorer is more than just a regular SQL Client. It is an ecosystem optimized to bridge the gap between idea and data, using the power of the latest Large Language Models (LLMs) to turn natural language into complex queries.

v1.6.7 highlights: CockroachDB and MariaDB are now production-ready with a shared TLS contract, adversarial pentest suites cover every guard, PWA and security.txt harden the web platform, queries can be cancelled from the Active Queries panel, and AI roles are configurable with custom OpenAI-compatible providers.

Multi-Engine Support

Native connections to PostgreSQL, MySQL, MariaDB, CockroachDB, SQL Server, MongoDB/Atlas, Redis, SQLite, and ClickHouse through a unified interface. Each engine uses its own optimized driver for maximum performance — not just a generic wrapper.

Multi-lane AI Assistant

Combines AI routing, Gemini, OpenRouter, Groq, Cerebras, and the Beeknoee explicit lane to support general chat, SQL generation, schema analysis, typed recommendations, attachment context, and vision flows.

Why Data Explorer?

Most database management tools today are either too simplistic or bogged down in legacy designs from decades ago. Data Explorer focuses on three core pillars: Information Density, Execution Speed, and Artificial Intelligence. We bring a "Monaco-first" experience — making data management as comfortable as coding in VS Code.
Unlike traditional database GUIs like pgAdmin or DBeaver, Data Explorer is built entirely on modern web technologies (React + Vite) with Hexagonal (Clean) Architecture. This allows access from any browser, on any device, while maintaining desktop-class performance.

"Our mission is to make data exploration as intuitive and seamless as the way you write source code every day."

Quick Start in 60 Seconds

Here is the fastest path once you have prepared `server/.env` as described on the Installation page. The goal is to boot the real app using commands that actually exist in the current repo, not older pseudo-scripts.
Quick Start

# Clone and install root + workspace dependencies

git clone https://github.com/KasierBach/Data-Explorer-Editor.git

cd Data-Explorer-Editor

npm install

npm install --prefix server

npm install --prefix client

# Sync the app metadata schema

cd server && npx prisma migrate deploy && cd ..

# Start the full project (server + client)

npm run dev

# Open browser at http://localhost:5173

Core Values

Data Explorer is built on four core values. Every feature, every line of code reflects our commitment to these principles:
  • Extreme PerformanceOptimizes practical hot paths: global search uses candidate indexes, table browsing uses explicit server-side windows, raw SQL has a 50,000-row guardrail, NoSQL aggregate caps before materialization, and migration uses adaptive batch sizing.
  • Absolute SecurityA layered architecture keeps connection data, app metadata, and UI concerns separated. Connection passwords are AES-256-GCM encrypted before storage; the backend enforces strong secrets, query guardrails, and SSRF validation for target hosts.
  • Developer ExperienceFull shortcut support (Ctrl+Enter to execute, Shift+Alt+F to format), SQL linting per dialect, multi-cursor editing, regex find & replace, and intelligent auto-complete.
  • Instant VisualizationConvert query results into professional charts with a single click. 15+ chart types supported. Interactive ERD diagrams with Dagre-based auto-layout.

AI-First Design Philosophy

We believe that in the AI era, typing repetitive SQL lines is a waste. Our AI-First philosophy revolves around 3 pillars:
  • 1. Proactive Assistance: AI doesn't just answer when asked; it proactively suggests (Ghost Text) based on code context.
  • 2. Schema-Awareness: Our AI "understands" your schema deeper than any traditional IntelliSense tool.
  • 3. Privacy-First AI: Leveraging AI without ever compromising customer data.

Mission & Vision

Mission

We believe that interacting with data should not be a technical ordeal. Data Explorer's mission is to democratize data access through AI, helping engineers and analysts focus on the "Why" rather than the "How" when writing SQL.

Vision

To become the leading open-source Data Command Center, where AI not only generates queries but also understands business context, predicts trends, and automates complex database maintenance tasks.

Product Roadmap

We are constantly improving Data Explorer. Here is what we are building for the upcoming versions:
Q2 2026
Global Search (Ctrl+P)

Instant access to tables, files, history, and AI commands from a single command palette.

Q3 2026
Performance Profiler

Visual breakdown of EXPLAIN ANALYZE and automated index suggestions based on query frequency.

Q4 2026
Team Collaboration

Share queries, dashboards, and ERD diagrams directly within a shared workspace.
